Mahadev Sargar and Bindyarani Sorokhaibam made history for India at
Commonwealth Games 2022 on 30th July.

representatives opened their account of medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022
on 30th July (Saturday). Weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar
(21-year-old) claiming a silver medal in the men's 55 kg category. He doesn’t want
anything but the gold, but two failed clean and jerk shots ruined his chances,
and stable for a joint lift of 248 kg (113 kg+135 kg) to finish second round.
His fellow weightlifter Gururaja Poojary, the silver medalist in the
last edition (56 kg), won the bronze in men's 61 kg category. The biggest
attraction of the day was Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who broke the
Commonwealth Games records to win India's first gold medal. Later, another
Tokyo Olympic Games medalist Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) started her
fight with a 5-0 win. Then, Bindyarani Sorokhaibam another
representative of India, won fourth medal of the day in the women's 55 kg
category of weightlifting. The hockey team of Indian women’s also won but the
women's table tennis team, the defending champions, crashed out.
How First Gold Medal Was Won by India!
The World champion of 2017, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu,
dominated the arena with a dominant show. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist
started with a weightlift of 84 kg, then created a new record in Commonwealth
Games (88 kg) in snatch. But she was unsuccessful in the 90 kg weightlift. In
the clean and jerk round, she started with a weightlift of 109 kg, then made it
113 kg (new Games record). But she was unsuccessful to lift 115 kg in the final
shot, thus settling for another new Commonwealth Games record of 201 kg.
Roilya Ranaivosoa lifted total 172 kg, 76 kg in snatch
round and 96 in clean & jerk round, while Kaminski lifted total 171 kg 74
kg in snatch round and 97 in clean & jerk round. Roilya Ranaivosoa was from
Mauritius and Hannah Kaminski from Canada. They took their silver and bronze
medals, respectively.

Indian PM Narendra Modi said: “The brilliant
Mirabai chanu makes India delighted yet again. Every Indian is pleased that she’s
won a Gold medal and also set a new Commonwealth Games record at the Birmingham.
Her victory motivates several Indians, specially budding athletes.”
Narendra Modi Tweeted for Jeremy Lalrinnunga
Indian PM Narendra Modi said through twitter: “Our
Young Power is making history!” He Congratulate him (Jeremy Lalrinnunga), who has
set an extraordinary Commonwealth record and won his first Commonwealth Games
and as well. “At a young age he’s took immense pride and magnificence. Greatest
wishes to Jeremy for his future endeavours”, PM said.

5-0 Saturday.
Table Tennis – Women’s team Quarter Final
India’s Manika Batra loses against Karen Lyne
of Malaysia 6-11, 3-11, 9-11. It's 2-2 after four matches. Manika Batra beat
Ying Ho 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 9-11, 11-3 to make it 1-1. Sreeja Akula made
it 2-1 with a victory over Li Chang (11-6, 11-6, 11-9).
