New GST Rates: Updated List of Goods and Services which are going to impact household burden, Applicable from 18th July, 2022.

With taxes climbed on daily essentials like packaged items of kitchen & low-cost hotel rooms, burden is set to go up for the common man.





















If steep increase had jeopardised your household budget already, be prepared for some additional burden started yesterday. As the authorities revise rate of goods and services tax (GST) (which were revised during the two-day GST council’s 47th meet held last month in Chandigarh, came into effect from Monday) on numerous items to increase government revenue, streamline rates and reduce disputes, customers may have to spend more on their regular groceries.

It was decided in the meeting during, headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, that packed food like milk, curd, flour and paneer and unpacked ones, including rise and wheat when packed, will be taken under the 5% slab. While leather products, solar water heaters and hotel charging Rs 1,000 or less per day for stay will come under 12% slab.

  • A 5% now increased on Packaged and labelled food items upto 25Kg packs: cereal pulses, flour, milk, curd, lassi, and puffed rise, among others. Non-ICU hospital rooms costing above Rs. 5,000/day. (Earlier 0%)

  • A 12% now increased on Hotel room terrif upto Rs. 1,000/day; Maps and hydrographic & similar charts of all kinds like atlases, wall maps, topographical plans and globes. (Earlier 0%)

  • A 18% now increased on Bank cheques. (Earlier 0%)

  • A 1.25% now increased on cut and polished diamond. (Earlier 0.25%)

  • A 7% now increased on Prepared/finished leather/chamois leather/composition leathers.
    Job work in relation to manufacture of leather goods and footwear.
    Solar water heaters and system. Petroleum/coal bed methane. (Earlier 5%)

  • A 6% now increased on Tetra pack
    Printing, writing or drawing ink.
    LED lamps, lights and fixture, their metal printed circuits boards.
    Power driven pumps.
    Knives with cutting blades, paper knives, pencil sharpeners and blades, spoons, forks, ladles, skimmers, cake servers.
    Works contract for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plants, crematorium.
    Machines for cleaning, sorting or grading seed, grain, pulses, eggs, fruit or other agricultural produce and its parts, milking machines and dairy machinery. (Earlier 12%)

  • A 7% now decreased on Ostomy appliances, Orthopaedic appliances – splints and other fracture appliances; other appliances which are worn or carried, or implanted in the body, to compensate for a defect or disability; intraocular lens. (Earlier 12%)

  • A 6% now decreased on Renting on truck/goods carriage where cost of fuel is included. (Earlier 18%)

  • A 13% now decreased on Transport of goods and passengers by ropeways (with input tax credit) (Earlier 18%)
