Shamshera Insights
Shamshera has been one of
the awaited movies of the year. The Yash Raj Films project stars Ranbir
Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor in the lead while Ranbir Kapoor locks horns with Sanjay
Dutt. The film marks Ranbir Kapoor’s come-back to the silver screen after four
long years. While Ranbir Kapoor has proved that he can win over the box office
with films such as Sanju and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Ranbir’s comeback comes at a critical
point for the industry.
The film has Ranbir Kapoor playing a double role of Shamshera and
Balli. Speaking about shedding the image from his earlier coming-of-age flicks,
Ranbir said Shamshera gave him a break to play the ideal Hindi film hero. Budget
of the film is ₹150 crore (US$20 million), it is one of
the most expensive bollywood films.

Sanjay Dutt plays the character, Daroga Shuddh Singh. The latter is reunifying with Karan Malhotra later Agneepath in 2012, in which he played the main baddie Kaancha Cheena. The actor said Shamshera is made for the crowds. He said that Shamshera is a remarkable film, most profitable film I have come across in recent times, it is made for the masses. This is kind of work I’ve done all my life, but it got somewhere forgotten in Bollywood industry.
Atul
Mohan (Trade expert) points out that the film is missing the excitement that
such a giant banner usually did earlier the pandemic. “The excitement is
missing. So far it is a mixed vibe from the movie," he says. “It all depends
on the number of audience walk-in on its first show. The ticket charges have
been reduced for the first show, which is good," he adds.
“If
the film gets good reviews and public enjoy it, the collections could multiply
after the evening. The film is expected to open between INR 8 and 10 crores. If
the shows are good and viewers start walking in, the collections could rise,"
Atul clarifies. “Previously it was easier to guess but now, it has become a
little harder to understand what the viewers actually wants from the hindi film
industry".
Ranbir
Kapoor also said that leaving aside the pleasure of playing the lead, it is a
great script again as much as Barfi or Sanju was. It was catering to a greater
audience. It had an array of emotions, wonderful characters and some amazing
action sequences. It was this larger-than-life film.
